Shannon Gilday, the suspect in the fatal shooting of Kentucky lawyer Jordan Morgan, was arrested early Monday morning.

Gilday, 23, of Taylor Mill, Kentucky, was found walking along Barnes Mill Road in Madison County just after 4:30 a.m. and was taken into custody without incident, Kentucky State Police announced.

Police have been searching for Gilday since identifying him as the suspect last week and issuing warrants for murder, burglary, criminal mischief, assault and two counts of attempted murder.

The investigation indicates Gilday forced his way into the home about 4 a.m., armed with a rifle, and almost immediately shot the 32-year-old Morgan while she was in bed, said Sgt. Robert Purdy, a spokesman for the state police.

Surveillance footage from the house in the 1200 block of Willis Branch Road showed a person investigators believe was Gilday before the incident, in a dark camo or tactical-style jacket and pants, a hooded sweatshirt, gloves and a facemask, walking around the house moments before the shooting, state police said.

After shooting Jordan Morgan, Gilday then allegedly confronted her father Wesley Morgan — a former Kentucky lawmaker — and gunshots were exchanged between the two. Wesley Morgan sustained non-life-threatening injuries, and Gilday left the scene, Purdy said.

“This is a low-life piece of dog crap, and I hope I get to engage again because the next time it will have a totally different outcome," Wesley Morgan said at a vigil for his daughter Sunday night.

On Friday, Gilday's mom went to Facebook to express condolences to the Morgan family and to offer insight into what his motive might have been.

She said her son was concerned with an impending nuclear war and wanted to build a bunker.
