Sacramento police say a second suspect has been arrested in connection with the weekend mass shooting which killed six people and injured 12. A police statement on Tuesday said Smiley Martin, 27, was seriously injured in the gunfire early on Sunday and remains hospitalized but will be jailed once he is fit to incarceration.

He faces charges of Possession of a Firearm by a Prohibited Person and Possession of a Machine Gun.

Police say Martin is the first suspect’s 26-year-old brother Dandrae Martin. Neither has been charged with homicide.

Dandrae Martin faces charges of assault and unlawful possession of a firearm.

California and Arizona court records shed more light on Dandrae Martin’s criminal history, CBS Sacramento reported.

In 2014, he pleaded guilty to domestic violence in Riverside County, Calif., and served 30 days in jail and community service. In Arizona in 2016, he was charged with aggravated assault and domestic violence and sentenced to two and a half years.

In 2018, he was again charged with domestic violence, misdemeanor misdemeanor and marijuana violation. In 2019, he was found guilty of violating his probation.

Police say they are working with extensive evidence – more than 100 cellphone videos and photos and surveillance footage. At least 100 casings were found from various weapons.

The arrests took place while the three women and the three men killed were identified. The shooting happened around 2 a.m. Sunday as bars closed and patrons filled the streets near the state Capitol. Among the victims were a father of four, a young woman who wanted to be a social worker, a man described as party life and a woman who lived on the nearby street and was looking for accommodation.

The Sacramento County coroner identified the women killed as 21-year-old Johntaya Alexander; Melinda Davis, 57; and Yamile Martinez-Andrade, 21. The three men were Sergio Harris, 38; Joshua Hoye-Lucchesi, 32; and De’vazia Turner, 29.

Sacramento Mayor Darrell Steinberg read their names at a vigil Monday night attended by grieving relatives, friends and community members.
