MAKE IT VIRAL:
a story by Charredtorso
I was paired up with another Coroner's investigator who was a retired LAPD Homicide Detective. We were sent from down town Los Angeles to the City of Hawthorne. There was a fire in an abandoned club/restaurant and there were several deaths.
I had been to numerous fire calls by this time in my career, this one was like an Easter Egg Hunt. There were several rooms in this club. Each room had a body or two, ranging from death from asphyxia to full on charred stumps. The fire crew, arson investigators and the police investigators were still sifting thru the mess when we arrived, several hours after the event.
We went room to room, carefully documenting bodies and attempting to locate ID and personal property. We called for another "meat wagon" and another investigator. It was a dirty and exhausting experience. Out of a total of nine bodies, we had ID for one of them. Towards the end of our 6 hours at the scene (with another 3-5 hours of paperwork to process back at the office) a detective approached us.
When the patrol units arrived at the scene earlier in the day, there was a young man wandering around the club's parking lot. He had sever arm and facial burns and his clothing was all torn up.
The cops took him to a local hospital and later to the police station to interview him.
It turned out that there were 12-15 Mexican nationals living in the abandon building. Late the previous night, Julio and the rest of the men were drinking beer and smoking weed. Several of the men jumped Julio, beat him and everyone in the building gang raped him for a few hours at knife point. When the beer and weed were gone, the men all went to their various rooms and went to sleep.
As you can imagine, Julio was very upset. With his torn clothing and torn anus, Julio planned to get even. He found a container, went to a gas station across the street, filled the container and returned to the club. Julio then scattered the flammable fluid through out the entire building, including the piles of trash and clothing laying around the whole building. Julio lit a match and received flash burns on his arms and face while standing back, admiring his handy work.
Julio freely admitted the multiple murders and went to prison. The event never made the local news papers, TV or any other media. They were only able to ID 4 of the homicide victims. The rest wound up as "Juan Does" and were cremated at county expense.
I drove by the location several times over the following years and could always smell the interior of that building that was flattened a few weeks later, after the fire.
The rest wound up as "Juan Does" and were cremated AGAIN at county expense.
