MAKE IT VIRAL:
The Seattle Police Department released on Tuesday video footage of a police-involved shooting, showing a man running from police officers after he stole a car.
The video, under three minutes, shows the compressed events of early Monday morning, including a chase, gunfire and a standoff that ends with the shooting of the suspect. The video starts with an officer saying to the suspect, “Hey, come here.” When the suspect appears to run away from the officer, the officer begins to chase him, and the suspect opens fire.
The man was driving a stolen vehicle, according to police. Officers were called to the scene in Seattle at around 4:20 a.m. Monday after they received a report of a man breaking into vehicles. When they arrived, that man fled and a chase ensued, according to a post on the department's online police blotter page. The man fired a handgun at police, and an officer returned fire.
The chase continued, and the suspect fled in a stolen vehicle, which he then crashed. The video released on Tuesday night shows an officer yelling, "Shut the vehicle off!" and then yelling, "He's reaching!" as the suspect appeared to dig for something in the car and ignored orders to stop.
Officers tried to take him into custody, and then one officer shot him. The officers provided first aid at the scene, but when the fire department arrived, responders declared the man dead. The chase took about an hour, but the video is condensed into two and a half minutes.
The police department said it was conducting an investigation into the shooting. "Per SPD policy, the officers involved in the shooting will be placed on paid administrative leave during the investigation," according to the police blotter.
Poor men, they should have fired long before they did, but they dont want to get sued!
